In 1964, I graduated from James Madison University, or Madison College, as it was known then, with a degree in Business Education. I married my high school sweetheart, John Gibbens (W-L, Class of 1958), in June, 1964. My career in teaching began and ended in Fairfax County, with stops along the way to raise two children. Our son was born in 1970 and our daughter's birth was in 1972. John and I have lived in Springfield, VA, for most of our married life. He retired from the CIA in 1995, and I retired from West Springfield High School a year later. Since retirement, I have directed the Senior Adult Group at our church and plan many activities and trips for the group. Our son currently lives in Centreville, VA, so we do get to see him often. Our daughter was married in 1997 and moved to the Wilmington, NC, area. Since then, she has given us three wonderful grandchildren, so we spend a lot of time traveling to see them. For the past four years, we have been a part of "Builders for Christ" and have helped to build new churches in Wisconsin, New Orleans, Ohio, and Kansas. We have also traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, and to several National Parks in the Western States, but most often, it is just to North Carolina to visit the grandchildren.
