William "Bill" Parker

Bill died December 15, 2006, at his home in Mason Neck, Virginia. He had arteriosclerotic heart disease. He spent 33 years with the framing business before buying well known Mickelson's Fine Art Framing, Washington, D.C., in 1999. In 2001, he established the William W. Parker Gallery which focused on contemporary Washington area artists.

Bill was born in St. Paul, Minnesota but grew up in Arlington County. As a member of our 1960 Washington-Lee class he served as co-captain of the school's crew team. The team won national tournaments before participating in the 1960 Henley Royal Regatta in England. Bill attended the University of Minnesota before serving in the Army. Discouraged by his parents from pursuing art in college, he had been a pre-med student, but he joined Mickelson's when he finished his military service.

Bill loved fly-fishing and caring for injured animals. His two marriages ended in divorce. Bill left two daughters from his first marriage, Silver Newton of Los Angeles and Sienna Johnson of Bethesda; three brothers, Lance Parker (W-L Class of 1957) of Chattanooga and Robert Parker and Steve Parker, both of Reston, and three grandchildren.
